Ingredients & Substitutions
Here is everything you'll need to make a golf ball shaped cheese ball:

- Boursin cheese—You'll need two packs for this recipe so I like to choose two different flavors. Garlic & herb pairs well with shallot & chive. Pick flavors that are light in color like a golf ball.
- Fresh dill—this makes up the "green" for our golf ball! Roughly chop your fresh dill and place it in the center of your serving dish. Chives would also work well here.
- Assorted crackers—Use your favorites! I enjoy Breton crackers, Triscuits, and Pretzel Crackers. You can also enjoy this cheese ball smeared on sliced veggies.
Equipment
This recipe requires minimal equipment. You will just need some plastic wrap to form the cheese ball, a serving dish, and a cheese knife for spreading.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Be sure to read the recipe card below for the full ingredient list, instructions, and macros.
(1) Stack the two Boursin cheeses on top of each other and cover in plastic wrap. Form into a sphere.
On your serving plate, place a pile of fresh dill in the centre as your golf green. Remove the plastic and add the cheese ball on top.
(2) Grab a chopstick or the back of a wooden spoon and spray with some oil. Poke holes all around the cheese ball until it looks like a golf ball! Wipe off the excess cheese between each hole.
(3) Arrange crackers around the plate and enjoy! Add some golf tees for a show-stopping appetizer.

How to Serve a Golf Ball Cheese Ball
I recommend following the presentation in the images here. Place a bunch of roughly chopped fresh dill in the center of a serving platter or large plate. Add the golf ball cheese ball on top and surround with crackers. You could also place the crackers and any veggies on a separate plate. Don't forget a small cheese knife for spreading.
Make Ahead & Storage
You can prepare the cheese ball a day before or a few hours in advance. Place it on top of the dill and put the whole platter in the fridge. Alternatively, just leave the plastic-wrapped cheese ball in the fridge and poke the holes before serving. It will be easiest to poke the holes if the cheese is fridge cold.
Any leftovers can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for a few days.
Expert Tips
Here are some of my top tips and tricks for a great cheese ball:
- Wash your dill before placing it on the platter.
- Keep the Boursin cheese in the fridge until you form the golf ball. It will be easier when cold. If the plastic wrap is getting sticky, pop the whole ball in the freezer for 10 minutes or until it firms back up again.
- Use a round utensil like the back of a wooden spoon or chopstick to poke the holes all around the cheese ball. Wipe it with any oil first and use a paper towel to wipe off excess cheese after each poke.
- Combine Boursin flavors for even more deliciousness!
- Let the cheese ball come to room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.
