Soak the cashews in boiling water until needed.

Sauté the onion on medium heat for about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic, tomato paste, and spices to the pot.

Add the tomatoes, broth, and water. Bring to a boil.

Once boiling, turn to low and cover for 90 minutes. Then uncover for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Transfer the soup to a blender along with the drained cashews and basil. Be careful blending hot soup!

Place the soup back into the pot and simmer for a few minutes.
